Johan Schmidt, a prominent figure in the Belgian music scene, has gained a remarkable reputation for both his virtuosity and sensitivity. He is a laureate of the most prestigious international competitions: Laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition where he also won the RTBF public prize – First prize at the Maria Callas Grand Prix international (Athens) – Third prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition (Moscow) – First prize at the Japan Competition (Tokyo) – Laureate of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (Fort Worth). His qualities as a soloist have led him to be invited to prestigious venues such as Munich’s Gasteig, Berlin’s Schauspielhaus, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Auditorium du Châtelet in Paris, Suntory and Casals Halls in Tokyo, Symphony Hall in Osaka, Rachmaninov Hall in Moscow, Herode Atticus Theatre in Athens, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, and the Tel Aviv Museum… Johan Schmidt is also a professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels as well as at the University of Qingdao (China) and, since 2016, at Sensoku University in Tokyo.
