Invited to major festivals (Salzburg, Berlin, Bath, Aldeburgh, La Roque d’Anthéron…), Florent Boffard has performed under the direction of Pierre Boulez, Simon Rattle, Leon Fleisher, Péter Eötvös with the National Orchestra of Lyon, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Freiburg, the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra…
A soloist with the Ensemble Intercontemporain from 1988 to 1999, he worked closely with the leading composers of our time and premiered pieces by Boulez, Donatoni, Ligeti… In 2019, Florent Boffard was a guest at the MusikFest Berlin and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg for a “Portrait” dedicated to the composer George Benjamin.
In 2010, he presented “Chopin, a Listen Today” live on Arte at La Folle Journée de Nantes. Eager to help audiences better understand the contemporary repertoire, he has also conducted numerous workshops and concert presentations, particularly at the La Roque d’Anthéron Festival. Florent Boffard also wrote the film “Schœnberg, the misunderstanding” that accompanies his recording of Schœnberg’s piano work released by Mirare in 2013, awarded “5 Diapasons” and “Editor’s choice” by Gramophone magazine. Among his recordings, his “Roots” disc dedicated to Bartok (Mirare), unanimously praised by the press and again distinguished by a Gramophone “Editor’s choice”. He has also recorded with Pierre-Laurent Aimard (DG), Isabelle Faust (Harmonia Mundi) and recently premiered and recorded Antiphonie by P. Boulez in a disc combining Beethoven, Berg, and Boulez (Mirare).
In 2001, the Forberg-Schneider Foundation (Munich) awarded Florent Boffard its Belmont Prize for his commitment to contemporary music. He has taught at the National Conservatory of Lyon and the Musikhochschule Stuttgart. Since 2016, he is a piano professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and at IESM in Aix-en-Provence.
