Description

Appointed as professor of viola at the CNSMD Lyon in 2009, Françoise Gnéri is a musician with an eclectic and original background, distinguished by her passionate commitment to a variety of projects. As a soloist with the orchestra of the Paris Opera for several years, she worked with renowned conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Georges Prêtre, and Myung-Whun Chung, developing a sense of lyricism and dramaturgy that has become her hallmark. Her intensive chamber music activity and profound knowledge of 20th-century music have led to invitations to perform on the most prestigious French stages (Châtelet, Radio-France, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Beaubourg, etc.) and abroad (Bremen, Venice, Lisbon, Tokyo, New York), collaborating with artists such as Philip Hirschorn, Christoph Henkel, Roland Pidoux, Jean-Pierre Wallez, Maxim Vengerov, Bruno Pasquier, François Salque, Claire Désert, Olivier Charlier, Marianne Piketty, and Ophélie Gaillard. She has recorded Brahms’ sonatas and Schumann’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in A minor, transcribed for viola, receiving critical acclaim for her interpretations. She has also recorded Johann Sebastian Bach’s 6 Suites for Solo Cello with Polymnie. Regularly invited by Jean-François Zygel to participate in his music lessons and classical cabaret, she shares with him a desire to create a dynamic relationship between the audience and the musicians, using her talent to engage in original events, bringing together new audiences in unusual venues, with a spirit of sharing and communication. Since 2010, she has been the artistic director of the International Music Academy of Hourtin-Médoc and the Tétrakys association in Touraine. She plays on a viola by Raphael and Anton Gagliano from 1856 and on a viola by Charotte from 1837.
