Highly Sought-After Piano Teacher, Pianist Rena Shereshevskaya
Rena Shereshevskaya, a graduate of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and holder of a Doctorate in Pedagogy and Performance, is a distinguished pianist and educator. For 12 years, she taught at the Central Special Music School for Gifted Children at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, later becoming Head of the Piano Department at the Ippolitov-Ivanov State Musical and Pedagogical Institute in Moscow. She has been honored as a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (France) and as Honorary Professor of the Ippolitov-Ivanov Institute. Additionally, she is a laureate of the International Ippolitov-Ivanov Prize for Music Pedagogy.
In 1993, Shereshevskaya was invited to France by the Colmar National Conservatory to establish a program for gifted children. She has also taught at the Paris National Conservatory (CNSM), the Rueil-Malmaison Conservatory, and the Alfred Cortot École Normale de Musique in Paris, where she continues to teach today.
She has mentored numerous young pianists who have won or been laureates in some of the world’s most prestigious competitions, becoming among the most celebrated artists of our time. These include Alexandre Kantorow (1st Prize in Piano and Grand Prix at the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition, Moscow, 2019), Lucas Debargue (4th Prize and Moscow Music Critics’ Special Prize at the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition, Moscow, 2015), Rémi Geniet (2nd Prize at the Queen Elisabeth International Competition, Brussels, 2013, and winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, New York, 2015), Marcel Tadokoro (3rd Prize at the 20th Paloma O’Shea Santander International Piano Competition, Spain, 2022, and two special prizes at the Cliburn Piano Competition, USA, 2022), Julian Trevelyan (2nd Prize, Best Mozart Concerto Performance, and Audience Prize at the Geza Anda International Piano Competition, Zurich, 2021), and many others. Several of her students now enjoy international careers, performing in the world’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Salle Gaveau, Philharmonie de Paris, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.
Rena Shereshevskaya gives public masterclasses worldwide, including in France, Switzerland, Spain, the United States, Germany, Sweden, Italy, and Japan. She also serves as a jury member for major international competitions such as the Long-Thibaud (France), Santander (Spain), Geza Anda (Switzerland), Montreal (Canada), Maj Lind (Finland), and Sendai (Japan). She has published several articles on music pedagogy in French, Russian, and Swiss journals.
In addition to her extensive teaching career, Shereshevskaya performs chamber music alongside internationally renowned musicians. She also forms a duo with her daughter, mezzo-soprano Victoria Shereshevskaya, and together they perform at numerous festivals in France and across Europe. She is the founder and artistic director of the “Artistic Dynasties and Families” festival, held for several years in Vitré and Taverny.
