Description

After holding the position of principal flute at the prestigious Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel, Julien Beaudiment is now the principal flute of the National Opera Orchestra of Lyon and a professor at the National Conservatory of Music in Lyon.

Originally from La Rochelle and Bordeaux, he crossed the English Channel at the age of 18 to study at the Guildhall School of Music in London. He later entered the National Conservatory of Music in Paris, where he obtained first prizes in flute and chamber music.

Winner of the international competition in Barcelona, his solo career developed rapidly after leaving the Paris Conservatory. He has performed as a soloist at renowned festivals and on major international stages such as the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, the Khumo Art Hall and the Art Center in Seoul, the Tokyo Bunka Kaïkan, the Essen Philharmonie, the Ljubljana Philharmonie, the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, the Berlin Konzerthaus, the Lyon National Opera, the Montpellier National Opera, the Bilbao Opera, the Teatro Lyrico in Cagliari, the Beijing National Center for the Performing Arts, the Chicago Symphony Center, the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, the Brisbane Griffith Hall in Australia, the Albert Long Hall in Istanbul, accompanied by the National Opera Orchestra of Lyon, the Nancy Symphonic and Lyric Orchestra, the Marriinsky Orchestra of Saint Petersburg, the Pays de Savoie Orchestra, the Cannes Symphonic Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie am Rhein, the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Gangnam Philharmonic, the Leopoldinum Symphony of Wroclaw, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Philharmonic, among others.

From the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles to the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam or the Royal Albert Hall in London, he performs in the most beautiful halls in the world with the Simon Bolivar Orchestra of Venezuela, the Estonian Festival Orchestra, the “Dissonances”, the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields, the Hallé Orchestra, the Beijing Opera Orchestra, the Toulouse Capitol National Orchestra, the Bordeaux National Orchestra, the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Paris Orchestra, the National Opera Orchestra of Paris, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the NDR Symphony Orchestra of Hamburg, under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel, Esa Pekka Salonen, Sir Colin Davis, Christoph Eschenbach, Paavo Järvi, Michael Tilson Thomas, Alan Gilbert, Vladimir Jurovski, Kirill Petrenko, Ivan Fischer, Charles Dutoit, Semyon Bychkov, Christian Zacharias, James Conlon, Philippe Jordan, Sir Roger Norrington, William Christie, Louis Langrée, Emmanuel Krivine, Thomas Hengelbrocht, Leonard Slatkin, with musicians Joshua Bell, Murray Perahia, and Itzhak Perlman, as well as composers John Adams, Matthias Pintscher, and Hollywood star John Williams.

He teaches each summer at the International Summer Academy in Nice, as well as at the Orford Music Academy in Canada, and conducts numerous masterclasses around the world, in North America (Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles, Vanderbilt University, Manhattan School and Juilliard School in New York, the San Francisco Flute Guild University, University of Montreal, University of North Texas in Dallas, the Iowa City University…), in Europe (Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Conservatory of Ljubljana, Musikhochschule in Hamburg, Superior Conservatory of Music in Valencia, Grenada and Malaga, High School of Music in Geneva and Lausanne, Daniel Baremboim Foundation in Seville…), and Asia (conservatories and universities in Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Bangkok, Central Conservatory of Beijing, Shanghai Music Academy…).
