Description

Alexandre Gattet began playing the oboe at the age of seven in Albi, located in the Tarn region of France. After earning a gold medal from the Toulouse Conservatory at fourteen, he was admitted to the Paris National Conservatory of Music (CNSM) to study under Jean-Louis Capezalli, David Walter, and Jacques Tys. In 1998 and 1999, he won unanimous first prizes in oboe and chamber music.

Winner of the “Gillet” International Oboe Competition (USA, 1999) and the Tokyo International Competition (2000), he became a laureate of the prestigious ARD Competition in Munich in September 2002. In December 2000, Christoph Eschenbach selected him to become principal oboist of the Orchestre de Paris, where he performed under the baton of renowned conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Daniel Harding, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Klaus Mäkelä, among many others.

He is also frequently invited to perform as principal oboist with some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.

A founding member of Les Dissonances (David Grimal), he has recorded Mozart’s Oboe Concerto and the complete symphonies of Brahms and Beethoven with this remarkable collective, all conducted without a conductor.

For the Indesens label, he recorded Henri Dutilleux’s Sonata and participated in critically acclaimed recordings of the wind chamber music of Robert Schumann, Francis Poulenc, and Camille Saint-Saëns. The latter was nominated for “Recording of the Year” at the 2011 Victoires de la Musique awards. In 2022, his first solo album, part of the “Paris 1900” collection, was released.

Since 2021, Alexandre Gattet has been teaching oboe at the Lyon National Conservatory of Music and Dance (CNSMD).
